That Day

I guess that day has come to take a minute and update our blog.
We are still here, we have just recently recovered from all the holiday fun. I know I realize that Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years are long gone but the holidays were so special this year the germs stayed with us. That right the germs. We have all had a monster cold that lasted the entire month of January and the most contagious 24 hours stomach bug and just as we think we are all better, noses dried up, coughs subside, Belly (Isabel) goes and gets more teeth and RSV. Lucky for all of us she is a champion and fought through it, needing very little assistance from Roland or I. Even during the night all she wanted to do was sleep and nothing was going to stop her, those are the times you praise and applaud your stubborn, single minded, determined child.
But WOW, we had a great Christmas. Some highlights:

I decorated 2 trees for the Festival of Trees this year. One with sisters and one with my mom's 8-12 yrs old Primary girls. Both sold, and it wasn't my dad who bought them (Hooray) I had a lot of fun but my hands hurt for days after twisting so much wire on decorating day.

This was the first year that Christmas was it exciting for Charlotte, and that made it fun for Roland and I. I didn't even care that I didn't open a single present, because I loved watching her open mine and showing to me and telling me how much I love it.

Roland and I took a quick trip with some friends to Vegas for the Las Vegas bowl. We stayed at the new Vdara (City Center) Hotel and it was amazingly fun to just leave the kids for 48 hours and just eat well and take it easy.

After Christmas we travelled to Afton to visit with Roland's parents and his brother and family who came in from Virginia. We had a lot of fun just hanging around doing what you are supposed to do on your Christmas vacation, which is nothing.

New Years Eve was sad, Belly started with the above mentioned 24 hr stomach bug. So we rang in the New Year listening to our baby dry heave (sorry, gross I know) But we did have a fun New Years party the next night we our friends.

With all of Roland's siblings in town Dan and Kyli blessed their baby (Brooklyn) and at the same time we had a Scherbel family picture. Those are always fun. And to make it more fun I was in the middle of having the 24 hr bug and Roland was just starting. By the end of the day everyone was throwing up. FUN.

What's New With Charlotte

Wow..Charlotte has been busy. Her new favorite pasttime is digging holes in the yard or just taking it easy sitting on the curb. She will spend all day outside if you let her.

If you even say 'bellybutton' when Miss C is around she will point to her neck (she has a oneise on so she can't lift up her shirt) Then she will want to see yours. She has become a little obessed, we are starting to work on other body parts.

Charlotte is learning her shapes. I think circles are her favorite. She can always find a circle. We watch Baby Newton (the baby einstein about shapes) And when she see a shape she goes to her shape poster to point to a shape. So clever this girl!

So helpful lately....Charlotte loves to help me around the house. She helps me throw away her diapers, she helps pick up toys (they don't stay away very long, but she tries) she loves to put the clothes into the washing machine. And when we get new diapers she loves to put them away. Picture this: 200 diapers and Charlotte putting them away, one by one.

Charlotte has been playing with a baby doll lately. She likes to take its clothes off and rocking her. I asked if the baby needed a nap and Charlotte tried to drop her in her crib.

This one isn't new, Charlotte has been running away at first sight or mention of a diaper. She runs aways so fast that her little tummy almost leaves the rest of her behind. Why doesn't she want a clean diaper?

I swear Charlotte wakes up some day s and decides that she is going to master something that day. For example one day she seems very determined to climb without anyone's assistance. She will try to climb into the bathtub, out of the bathtub, up into the highchair, onto the couch out of her bed. She hasn't succeeded ---YET. She also has days when she does a lot of walking backwards, it is more of a waggle then a walk, but she is one focused little girl.

Charlotte has an alphabet poster on her door, we have been teaching her what the pictures are by saying "baby, car, fish, etc" and pointing the the object on the poster. We were really focusing on baby yesterday but she kept pointing to the fish. This morning I got her out of her crib and she walked right over to the poster and said something with two 'B's and pointed to the baby!!!!!!! And we thought Hazel was going to the smart one and Charlotte was going to be the muscle.

Charlotte is flicking her tongue to make a, well a flicking sound, if she isn't talking she is normally making that sound. A little creepy, I will try to get it on video.

After mastering the toe tapping, she then started walking backward. Only two words...A Natural. She never even stumbles.

Charlotte is always learning to do something new. Aunt Amanda has taught her to tap her toe. It is more of a foot stomp, but she has heavy legs. Whenever she hears music you can almost see the nerves sending the signal from the brain to the leg, down to the foot.
